Impact concussion screenings help young athletes

Every season, 20% of young athletes in contact sports suffer a concussion—a brain injury caused by a blow to the head. But because symptoms can be subtle, many concussions go undiagnosed. Athletes may return to sports too soon, putting themselves at risk for brain damage from a second head injury.

As part of our commitment to creating safe and healthy childhoods, the new Concussion Center at Scott & White-Round Rock offers ImPACT testing to help local athletes assess their risk and get medical treatment for concussions.

ImPACT Testing is fast and easy.

ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive impact Testing) is a computerized test that creates a "baseline" record of brain functions, including:

  • Attention span
  • Memory
  • Problem-solving
  • Reaction time

Athletes who get a concussion during their season are re-tested. Pre- and post-injury results are then compared to assess when it’s safe to return to play.

Get your child tested before the next sports season.
Texas law requires young athletes with head injuries to be evaluated by a physician before they can return to sports. So don’t wait—contact our Concussion Center today at 512-509-0287.
